Orion’s Archers is a Scottish Archery Association and ArcheryGB affiliated archery club shooting in Cardross, between Helensburgh and Dumbarton.
We shoot on Friday evenings, between about 7pm and 9pm indoors. We have coaches available, and run beginners courses several times a year when there are requests. Members of other clubs are of course welcome. For people new to archery there is an insurance requirement to attend a beginners course first (all equipment provided), before you then join the club. The annual fee includes (in fact, is mostly) the fees to SAA and ArcheryGB and includes insurance.
The club has several coaches, and beginner’s courses are run at various times of the year. Kevin Smith is a Level 2 coach, and is supported by Level 1 coaches Dennis Watson, Simon Garnett, and Alun ap Rhisiart.
If you are new to archery and interested in taking a course, please use the contact form on this site, or send us a message via Facebook. We also occasionally run come-and-try sessions if you are not sure if this is for you.
Advice on buying your own equipment after the beginner’s course is over will be provided, perhaps in conjunction with trying other equipment to see whether it suits before buying (this is one of the beauties of joining a club).
We also occasionally go outdoors to do field archery on a course near Oban run by Argyll Field Archers, or shoot at the outdoor range with Trident Archers.
We can be found at Geilston Hall, which is on the right just as you leave Cardross in the direction of Helensburgh. Or use the contact form on this site to find out more information and arrange a visit to come and try archery for yourself.
